President's Message - October 2007

Greetings!  Welcome to a new chapter year. My name is Robin Thorne and I am honored to work with the Executive Board and lead as your President for the 2007-2008 calendar year.  Our #1 priority, while upholding the standards established by the Society, is to serve you - our members.   We plan to continue the ‘members only’ drawing introduced by our immediate past President, Dwight Graham, which provides members an opportunity to win cash just for showing up at meetings.  We will implement a ‘member spotlight’ and recognition section in the newsletter as well as work on increasing membership and retaining current members compliments of your Membership Chair, Monica Dove.  There will be a buzz about ASSE in Long Beach and the surrounding areas as well as community outreach through efforts led by your Public Relations Chair, Tiffany Taylor.  We will continue with sound financial management of chapter funds by your Treasurer, Frank Wente.  Members will be updated on any new regulations and will continue to receive this monthly newsletter, on time, thanks to your Government Affairs representative and Vice President, Tom Butler.  We will be kept informed of Assembly updates by your Delegate, Marianne Thomas.  We will ensure you have exciting programs and meeting topics because of the commitment of your President-Elect, Bart McGhee.

As we plan these exciting activities, it’s important that we have member input.   In the next couple of weeks, expect to receive a survey via email and/or a phone call from a member of the Executive Committee.  We want to provide you with an opportunity to share with us how we can better serve you.  Or feel free to contact me directly at 714-448-4283 or chemeng97@verizon.net to share any ideas or suggestions you feel would benefit you as a member.   We would love for you to be more involved; it’s an extremely rewarding experience.

Always remember your value as a Safety professional - millions of people go to and return home from work safely every day due, in part, to the commitment of the occupational safety, health and environmental practitioners who work day in and day out identifying hazards and implementing safety advances in all industries and at all workplaces, thereby reducing workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses.

We are looking forward to seeing you in September at our new meeting location, The Petroleum Club, in Long Beach.  Stay tuned for next month’s issue where we will share with you topics for the upcoming months.
