- Eliminate unfair business competition by leveling the playing field.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
ASSE Long Beach - August 2011
PRESIDENT August 2011 Message on Leadership (pdf)
This message is to keep all our members updated on the status of our ASSE Long Beach Executive Board. Due to conflicts and business needs several of our Executive Board members have needed to resign leaving openings and opportunities for Long Beach ASSE Members. I want to thank Don Rhodes, PhD, MHS, Elizabeth Kovach-Hayes, CSP, and Jack ReVelle PhD for serving in leadership positions of our Long Beach ASSE Executive Board. They have done an outstanding job which is greatly appreciated and they will be missed. Congratulations are in order for Jack ReVelle as he has accepted an outstanding opportunity that will take him to China. We all wish you the best Jack. We send our best regard for Don, Elizabeth, and Jack and thank each of you for supporting the leadership of Long Beach ASSE.
This does place our Chapter in a difficult situation. I am reaching out to each member to consider joining the Executive Board of our Chapter to assist in maintaining effective leadership. Currently I am filling in on the open positions but will not be able to continue throughout the entire year without assistance. Below is a brief description of each office in our Chapter. Awards – Vacant – Work with Society and the Executive Board to research members that achieve awards and support in recommending members for awards. Write up articles about members and their special interest to submit to the newsletter.
I have given a brief description of the chapter positions for your consideration, however, for additional information Chapter Services staff at ChapterServices@asse.org can assist, they have detailed information. An incentive to join the Executive Board is that a new member of the Executive Board will be selected and sponsored (all expenses paid) to attend the Leadership Conference being held in Chicago, Illinois October 13 - 15, 2011.
As our Chapter looks forward to the upcoming plans for our Chapter's success, it is essential for each and every one of our members to be active members in our Chapter. We have many opportunities for everyone to lend a hand and support our Chapter. We all must look to the future development of our profession and make this a teamwork operation. As a member you earn 1 CEU point a year, however, you can also earn extra CEU Points a year by being an officer in Our Chapter. As an officer you will become more aware of opportunities within the Society and your leadership will help guide our Chapter into a positive future.
As you can tell by the list of open positions we need support or this Chapter could fail. Please consider stepping up to the plate and volunteering for a position. Contact me if you want more information or want to express a desire to volunteer, (562-429-3571 - mjtrdt@gmail.com). The Long Beach ASSE Chapter is only as good as the support from its members. I look ahead to an exciting year and encourage each and every one of you to become involved in the activities of our Chapter; this is a true professional growth and networking opportunity. I look forward in hearing from our members.

President Marianne Thomas CSP
President Elect Open
Vice President Don Rhodes, PhD
Treasurer Jack B. ReVelle, PhD
Secretary Jack B. ReVelle, PhD
Delegate Frank Wente
We encourage every member to consider volunteering to step up and take the responsibilities of leadership in the ASSE of Long Beach. Anyone interested in running for office or taking an active role in an appointed office, just let us know. Volunteering for open offices is always welcome. The success of our chapter depends of the participation and involvement of the members. We are looking forward in working toward promoting a dynamic and active chapter.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Just a message to all our members. We had a very exciting topic on February 9, 2011. Those that missed our meeting missed a very memorable presentation provided by Hank Cierpich a Fatality Investigator for the "Fatality Assessment and Control Evaluation," (FACE) Program for California Department of Public Health. Mr. Cierpich reviewed local cases with examples of how they investigate then create guidelines to prevent recurrence. There was a wide variety of handouts which are available on the website CA Dept. of Public Health - FACE. We were encouraged to review these documents and use them free of charge to spread the safety message and help in the workplaces.
Do not miss next month's meeting on March 9, 2011 at the Petroleum Club as we will have an expert discussing Hearing Conservation, "Is the World Really Mumbling or Are My Ears Just Getting Older?" I have placed our meeting and event schedule on our web site for review,
Chapter Website.
A few more events that are coming up fast. The California Safety, Health & Environmental 2 day conference is scheduled for April 13 - 14, 2011, and is getting close, check the website, CA EHS Conference Also we will be having a half day fully packed seminar May 11 at the Petroleum Club Both events are on our web site. Check your calendars and join us for great professional development opportunities.
