President's Message - August 2010

Hello and welcome to all our members for an exciting ASSE year. I want to thank each of you for the honor to be elected President of our Long Beach ASSE Chapter. I do want to thank Tom Butler for completing a great 2009 – 2010 year as President. I look forward to a very active, exciting, and eventful 2010 – 2011 year. I have placed our meeting and event schedule on our web site for each and every member and associate to review and plan ahead to attend our action packed sessions.

As we look forward to a full year we must keep the important factor of working together and having true collaboration. When we work together we can achieve common objectives and still provide positive results for the industry we support. We must be team-minded and eliminate the silo effect. This can be accomplished through collaboration.

One of the key aspects of collaboration is communication. In today’s technology sometimes we feel overwhelmed with communication yet there is always room for improvement. To improve communication we must learn to be active listeners. Listening will improve productivity. Listen and be open to all aspects of a proposal, after all we have two ears and only one mouth so we need to listen more and talk less. The ASSE Long Beach Executive Board is very interested in listening to ideas and suggests from all the members. We want to continue building a strong Chapter.

The ASSE Long Beach Executive Board welcomes any and all interested member to join in and participate in the operation of the Long Beach ASSE Chapter. We still have open positions both appointed and elected on the Executive Board. Just contact any of the Executive Board and let them know you are willing to support the Long Beach ASSE Chapter.

The Long Beach ASSE Chapter is only as good as the support from its members. I look ahead to an exciting year and encourage each and every one of you to become involved in the activities of our Chapter; this is a true professional growth and networking opportunity.

Respectfully Submitted,

Marianne Thomas CSP, REA, CPEA, MBA
Long Beach ASSE President
